    — Average Kürstenburger soldier's battle cry

The Duchy of Kürstenburgball is a countryball set in the fictional world of "Crownfall," and is located on the continent of Åkre. It consists of 4 cantons, those being the coastal Canton of Stalemball, the somewhat coastal Canton of Welleckball, and the inland, forested Canton of Zworninball. It's capital is Stalemburgball, located in the Canton of Stalemball.

The duchy was founded in the 6th Century YK and grew its clay through close alliances in the 7th Century YK. In 1011 YK, Kürstenburgball became a member of the Hilden Confederation, then a large and powerful political entity, due to the economic benefits that would result from joining. However, in 1027 YK, a botched conflict led to horrific destabilization in the Confederation, resulting in riots, revolts, and eventually armed revolution en mass. This revolution would oust the monarchic governments of most of the states of the Confederation, including Kürstenburgball, and dissolve the Hilden Confederationball itself.

As a result of this political upheaval, Kürstenburgball became a state with no land, as its government and people were forced into exile in the allied nation of Arúvikball. In 1032 YK, the prince, now self-proclaimed Duke, of Kürstenburg formed a foreign legion in the Arúvikian Imperial Army Corps, which would fight in multiple conflicts, and eventually spearhead an invasion in 1048 YK into Kürstenburg territory with the goal of reestablishing the Duchy of Kürstenburg. This plan would succeed, and thus the Duchy of Kürstenburg was restored.

    History

    Founding

Kürstenburgball's founding is traced back to the 6th Century YK, when a Germanic warrior named Heinrich Roth settled with his clan in what is today Stalemball's clay. Here, Heinrich founded a settlement that would become Stalemburgball. This settlement was built around a coastal castle that would act as the seat of Stalemball's, and later Kürstenburgball's government for the next 500 years.

    Territorial Expansion

It wouldn't be until about 100 years after Stalemball's founding that it would begin to grow its clay. In the mid-7th Century YK, Stalemball would expand to include the territory of the nearby Welleckball as a result of a marriage between Arne Roth of Stalemball and Fresin Tobe of Welleckball. This marriage also united the two families, forming a new ruling dynasty that would call itself "Roth-Tobe."

In the 8th Century YK, the peoples in what would become Zworninball elected to join the growing federation, mostly as a way of protecting itself from encroachments upon its clay from the neighboring Kingdom of Wenning to the north.

    Formation of the Duchy

At the dawn of the 9th Century YK, the ruler of Stalemball, Friedrich Roth-Tobe, realized that there was no real political force unifying his realm with Welleckball or Zworninball, just loose alliances and flimsy treaties, each with their own loopholes and other issues. He realized that if the 3 territories wanted to work together, there had to be some sort of central, unifying force. Friedrich would hold a meeting with the leaders of Welleckball and Zworninball to organize some kind of central government, and write down its laws and regulations in a constitution.

What they finally decided on was a Federal Monarchy, in which a Duke presided over the activities of the 3 territories, which would now be referred to as Cantons, with each being ruled by a "Cantonsmeister." Each Canton would have its own form of government, and also contribute troops to a centralized army, which would be referred to as the "Cantonsarmee," or Cantonal Army.

It was decided that the position of Duke would be bestowed to Friedrich and his descendants of the house Roth-Tobe. Finally, the meeting concluded that the 3 sovereign Cantons would be united as the Duchy of Kürstenburgball, a new state that would aim to secure the prosperity and security of the citizens within its clay.
